Although I’ve been preaching the non-overwhelm concept for years, I’ve never thought about it from this angle.
In July, Sue Lehman – from Keep it Simple with Sue – posted an article that stopped me in my tracks.
When I reached the section I have for you here, my ears perked up (so to speak).
Here’s the part of Ms.Lehman’s post that hit me so hard. It explores the effects in our personal space when we take on too much. (Prepare for “Ooo. Ouch.” moments!)
“What happens when I try to do it all?” ( By Sue Lehman)
-
I get overwhelmed and angry. I will rage that no one is helping me, but I won’t ask for help-after all, they have eyes: they can see I need help, right?
-
I start playing the martyr. This only adds to my anger and resentment.
-
I bite the heads off of everyone around me. My anger and resentment spill over onto everyone and everything.
Trying to do it all turns me into not a very nice person. I need to remember that it’s not my job to do everything and I can and should ask for help.
Sue’s last sentence gives me hope. Knowing she also needs reminders encourages me.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope Sue’s short-but-mighty list helps you as much as it did me.
I can still get off track in this area, and I appreciated the reminder. Sigh
